May 2026

The circle of time swirls noticeably this month. Upcoming kindergarten parents have enrolled their children for next year, while seniors and their parents are gradually checking off all “the lasts”: AP tests, prom, band and choir concerts and more.

For ASF, May is packed with rewards; one of the most notable is scholarship selection. Hardworking committee members have individually dedicated 60+ hours to read, study and match applications with scholarships. With close to 100 seniors and more than 70 college students applying, our work was cut out for us. It’s inspiring to read the accomplishments and hopes of our future leaders. And we are very grateful for our donors, who have chosen to support these students by giving them opportunities to pursue their dreams. Donors will have a chance to meet the recipients of their scholarships next month, and we can’t wait to celebrate with them at our Scholarship Ceremony on June 1.

We are also in the middle of our annual campaign and are well on our way to matching our anonymous donation of $5000. We’re not there yet, so please consider giving; your dollar is doubled if you donate by June 15. Your donation will be used to support activities like those happening this spring: Outdoor School field trips, Padilla Bay and Island Adventure field trips; and Local Artists in the Schools, to name a few. You can also designate your donation to one of our areas of focus: mental health, early learning, the arts, STEM or CTE.

Finally, May is National Mental Health Awareness month. Because mental health support is a priority, we allocated a $350,000+ block grant for the 2026-27 school year to support mental health across the district.
