Taking it to the Streets

Treva King greets participants with ASF swag.

The last days of summer: blackberry bushes bursting and flowering along the Tommy Thompson; Kiwanis Field and Storvik Park alive with soccer, soccer and more soccer; the realization that the light is indeed fading; and the all too familiar sound of school buses on their practice routes.

We wrapped up a glorious summer by hosting a meaningful Ready to Learn Fair, where more than 300 students received free school supplies, clothing, haircuts and books. Just as important, families were able to access valuable resources: Food to Go, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health, Salvation Army, PFLAG Skagit and so many more. Thank you to our wonderful community partners who came to share with families.

Then we hit the streets: Open Streets. What a fun day to connect with the community and share what's happening with us but also to learn what’s happening with so many others.

As students return to their classrooms, there’s a settling quiet. But not for long. Soon, we will harness the energy of students and staff alike at our 12th annual Fueling Education Fun Run. Hundreds of runners and walkers will take to the loop as we raise money for CTE/STEM scholarships, CTE enrichment equipment and a winning school block grant to the school with the highest participation. Thanks to our partnership with HF Sinclair and our sponsors, we will host the best run yet: Sunday, September 20 at Washington Park. Hope to see you all there.
